Carole King Performs at Benefit for Camp Korey
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON - Carole King headlined the second annual Washington "Wine Weekend" Festival to benefit Camp Korey, a medically-supervised camp staffed with physicians, nurses and trained camp counselors for children suffering from serious and life-threatening illnesses. As a long-time friend of Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman and a supporter of his Hole in the Wall Camps - of which Camp Korey is a member - Carole has been participating in the annual Hole in the Wall Gang Camp galas for 16 years.
The camp provides a week-long experience of camp programs and activities for children aged 7 – 16, at no cost to them. Camp Korey was founded by Tim Rose, father of the late Korey Rose, who passed away in 2004 at the age of 18 after being diagnosed with bone cancer.
This year's honorees at the Washington "Wine Weekend" Festival were Eric Dunham and the Dunham Family. Dunham Cellars is one of more than 50 wineries participating in Wine Weekend. Of the participating wineries, 11 wineries partnered with local chefs and restaurants to make up the popular winemaker's dinners taking place on Friday night in locations around Carnation Farm.
Featured sponsors of this year's event again included Newman's Own and Continental Mills, makers of Krusteaz, who provided the gourmet breakfast on Saturday morning. Founded by actor Paul Newman and author A.E. Hotchner, Newman's Own is a food company that donates all profits to charity. Washington Wines Festival was founded in 1991 by a group of wine lovers who wanted to promote local Washington wineries while giving back to the community.
Washington Wines Festival has raised and donated more than $4 million to organizations such as Farestart and the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic. Camp Korey has been the beneficiary since "Wine Weekend" inaugural event in 2008. Washington Wines Festival is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Carole performed for Camp Korey on Saturday evening, July 11th, at Carnation Farm.
